It’s kind of funny to write a post called ’12 Things To Do In Dubai’ when there are so many things to do in this city. I think I will have to write many versions of this post in the future.
People like lists, so this post is a start to show the kind of things you can do in Dubai. Remember, like anywhere else, the more you put into Dubai, the more you get out.
Are you interested in history, culture, sports, theatre, architecture, good food, business, shopping, and much more? I will try and cover as much as possible in the future.
Dubai has something for everyone; you just need to go and look for it. Here are 12 things to do in Dubai.

A desert safari is a classic activity that almost everyone wants to try when they come to Dubai. Usually, these safaris will pick you up at a location in Dubai or from your hotel. They will drive you into the desert, where you can try quad biking, dune-bashing in a four-wheel drive, watch a hawk, and then have a sit-down dinner with a show including belly dancing, jugglers and more.

I have been to these many times over the years, at different camps and always have fun. The quality has varied over the years, so check the reviews and ask for recommendations. You can customise your trip, so for example, I don’t do the dune bashing part anymore because I feel sick, probably old age! Talk to the organisers.

Firstly, I have never been to this waterpark, so I can’t comment personally on how good or bad it is. I can say that many friends and colleagues have been there, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, so go for it. I love this place. It is one of my favourite new attractions in Dubai. If you have any interest in science, technology and the future, then this is a great place to visit.

If you are into quirky and off-the-wall, then Alserkal Avenue is the place to be. There is a full range of event spaces, designer goods, an independent cinema, great food countless events throughout the year. It is one of my favourite places to visit in Dubai.
Located in the heart of Al Quoz, Alserkal Avenue is Dubai’s creative soul and a hub for contemporary art and culture. Once an industrial compound, the area now houses over 60 warehouses converted into galleries, performance venues, design studios, and artisan cafes. It’s a place where local and international artists gather, exhibit, and innovate.
The Avenue is home to prestigious spaces like the Ayyam Gallery and the Third Line, showcasing contemporary Middle Eastern and South Asian artists. You can also visit the Jamjar, which offers hands-on painting sessions, or Cinema Akil, Dubai’s only independent arthouse cinema, which screens a range of global films and documentaries. Many of the spaces host talks, workshops, and public installations, creating a vibrant, community-driven atmosphere.
Entry to Alserkal Avenue is free, and prices for exhibitions or events vary depending on the venue. It’s best explored on foot, and you’ll find plenty of Instagram-worthy spots, especially during Art Week or one of their seasonal pop-ups. Real Madrid World at Dubai Parks and Resorts
I’m a big football fan, but I have never been to this venue. I have one friend who has visited, and he said it was good fun, so go and try it. Whenever I get there, I will come back and update this post.

Opened in 2024, this thrilling destination is dedicated to one of the most iconic football clubs in the world and offers a mix of sports-themed rides, games, and interactive exhibits.

There is a lot of history in Dubai, if you know where to look. The Al Fahidi district is probably the best place to start. Located by Dubai Creek, it is a beautiful area where you can travel back in time and relax. Full of museums, artisans, and great restaurants, it’s a wonderful place to get lost in.
Step back in time at the Al Fahidi Historical District (also known as Al Bastakiya), one of the oldest neighborhoods in Dubai. With its narrow lanes, traditional wind towers, and preserved sand-colored buildings, this area offers a glimpse into the emirate’s past. Many of the restored homes now function as museums, galleries, and cultural centers, including the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding.
A must-do here is the Abra ride across Dubai Creek. For just AED 1, you can hop onto one of the traditional wooden boats that ferry passengers between the Deira and Bur Dubai sides of the creek.
